A Scriptural Perspective on Anger

 Ephesians 4:26-27

Be angry and yet, do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.

James 1:19-20

This you know, my beloved brethren but everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

Proverbs 29:11

A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back.

Proverbs 19:11

A man's discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.

Ecclesiastes 7:9

Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools.

Proverbs 15:18

A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but the slow to anger calms a dispute.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Colossians 3:8

But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

James 4:1-2

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.

Proverbs 14:17

A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, and a man of evil devices is hated.

Proverbs 16:32

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.

Ephesians 4:31

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

Proverbs 22:24

Do not associate with a man given to anger; or go with a hot-tempered man.

Proverbs 12:16

A fool's anger is known at once, but a prudent man conceals dishonor.

Psalm 37:8-9

Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land.

Proverbs 29:22

An angry man stirs up strife, and a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.

Luke 6:31

Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.

Romans 12:21

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Proverbs 14:29

He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.

Psalm 37:8

Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.

Proverbs 17:27

He who restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.

2 Timothy 2:23-24

But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged.

Colossians 3:21

Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.
